KENNEBEC EXPLORER NEWS
Since the launch of the Kennebec Explorer system in 2011, the local public transit service has experienced an unprecedented growth in ridership. The Kennebec Explorer system has grown to over 103,000 annual rides, up from 44,000 in 2011.

Kennebec Explorer is proud to partner with MaineGeneral Hospital to provide local transit service as well as service between Waterville and Augusta. Service is provided from 5:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This allows regular commuter access between the Waterville and Augusta facilities, in addition to regular access to the hospital.

Routes in Augusta have been modified to accommodate the evolving demand for senior and veterans services and stops have been added at the Cony Flat Iron Building, Margaret Chase Smith House, Hodgkins School, Cabin in the Woods, and other locations.

The service is an excellent resource for shopping trips, social visits, errands, medical visits, educational opportunities, access to hiking & biking trails, and other destinations. It provides residents in the Greater Waterville and Augusta communities with access to MaineGeneral Medical Center and Alfond Cancer Center. Riders have access to continued education at the University of Maine at Augusta, Thomas College, and Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield. The bus also provides limited connections with Concord Coach and Grayhound intercity bus services for people traveling to Portland, Boston, Bangor, and beyond.
